There are few better words in the world of television than “HBO” and “new series.” But add “Westworld” and “Denis Villeneuve” to the mix, and you might have found something even better. A new limited series is coming from HBO, and the details we have so far are enough to get us hyped. Not only is the show coming from Denis Villeneuve and the creators of Westworld, but Jake Gyllenhaal is also set to star in this HBO series! Let’s take a look at what we know so far about this development, which will be an adaptation of The Son by Jo Nesbø.

Jake Gyllenhaal To Star in HBO Limited Series

The Son, Jo Nesbø’s 2014 crime novel, follows the story of Sonny Lofthus. Lofthus has been serving a lengthy prison sentence for a crime that was not his doing. He finds himself mixed up in a life of drug dealing, legal secrecy, and somebody who desperately wants him to stay in prison.

Jake Gyllenhaal will star in The Son, and will also executive produce through the Nine Stories Productions banner. Riva Marker will co-executive produce. Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Arrival) will be executive producing and directing the series. Lenore Zion (Channel Zero, Ray Donovan) is attached to write the limited series. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the creators of Westworld, are serving as the showrunners for the limited series.

This project will be Jake Gyllenhaal’s second at HBO. He is currently developing Lake Success, an adaptation of Gary Shteyngart’s novel of the same name. The Son‘s adaptation will be Gyllenhaal’s third collaboration with Villeneuve after Prisoners and Enemy.

A Project Full Of Great Names

We aren’t surprised to see such great names coming from an HBO series. The network is known for its ability to be innovative, and its best-known projects are miles apart from each other in terms of content. So, we’re thrilled to hear that Gylleenhall, Villeneuve, Joy, Nolan, and Zion are teaming up. Though to be fair, they could create a series about paint drying and we’d still watch it.

Does this HBO series, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, sound like something you’ll be adding to your radar? Let us know in the comments! And while you’re at it, check out our post on the Dune trailer!
