Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa and Gerard Butler are teaming up on an exciting film project titled In the Hand of Dante. The movie will be under the direction of acclaimed director Julian Schnabel. It also features Martin Scorsese as executive producer and is currently in the midst of shooting on location in Italy, thanks to a tentative SAG-AFTRA agreement that allows filming to continue despite the actors’ strike affecting the industry.

In the Hand of Dante is an adaptation of Nick Tosches’ novel and offers an intriguing plot revolving around the original manuscript of The Divine Comedy, which falls into the hands of a smuggling ring in New York’s seedy underworld. In the midst of this plot, an exhausted scholar named Nick is called upon by the mob to authenticate the manuscript. Tempted by the opportunity, Nick defies the mob and embarks on daringly attempting to appropriate the coveted manuscript.

 Deadline reports that the film In the Hand of Dante offers a dual narrative that follows Nick’s experiences as he journeys from a metaphorical hell to paradise in the company of his beloved Giulietta. Simultaneously, it unfolds the story of Dante, a man trapped in a loveless marriage to Gemma, who finds his muse in his lost love, Beatrice, and creates his literary masterpiece.

The connection between Nick and Dante, despite occurring in different eras, lies in their common quest for love, beauty and the promise of the divine, which adds depth and mystery to the plot.

The project In the Hand of Dante has an outstanding production team, including Jon Kilik, Francesco Melzi d’eril on behalf of MeMo Films, and Olmo Schnabel on behalf of TWIN Productions as lead producers. The figure of Martin Scorsese, as executive producer, brings even more prestige to this production. Oscar Isaac, through his production company Mad Gene Media, and Julian Schnabel also play key roles as executive producers.

WME Independent and CAA Media Finance will handle film distribution domestically, while WME Independent will handle international sales.
