Previously, actress Jennifer Lawrence – also known as J-Law – starred in the hit movie trilogy, The Hunger Games. The film series, an adaptation of the best-selling book series that Suzanne Collins wrote, was a mega-hit worldwide. In the series, Lawrence played the role of Katniss Everdeen. She starts in the first movie trying to protect her sister, Prim, from the deadly ‘Hunger Games’ competition. However, by the fourth movie, Mockingjay Part 2, Everdeen became a fighter in a revolution of the fictional country, Panem. Fans worldwide adored the franchise’s adult messaging, so it was no surprise when Collins penned a prequel novel in 2020. Naturally, Lionsgate confirmed they’d make a Hunger Games prequel film adaptation even before Collins released the book. The Hunger Games prequel film is titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It tells the story of future president Coriolanus Snow, the main villain of the original Hunger Games series. He is behind various plots to kill Katniss and forces the citizens of Panem to participate in the lethal Hunger Games. However, Songbirds and Snakes takes place long before this and occurs at the 10th Hunger Games. We see Snow fall in love with the tribute from District 12 and all the problems that this creates.Currently, we know that Rachel Zegler will start in the film as Lucy Gray Baird, the District 12 tribute. Tom Blyth will take the role of younger Coriolanus Snow. Other cast members include Hunter Schafer, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman, and Peter Dinklage. However, not all their roles are clear.

Naturally, the main actress of the first four movies had some things to share with the cast members of the Hunger Games prequel film. Lawrence recently spoke about the film in an interview at Toronto International Film Festival. Her message was positive, and she appears to have a lot of love for the stars of the Hunger Games prequel film. Here’s what she said:

“Oh, and the prequel? You guys are going to have the best time. Just have fun — don’t worry about anything.”

It’s nice to see that Lawrence is so positive about the series and that she has some good advice for the stars. In another interview, she spoke about how making The Hunger Games was the most fun she’s ever had on a film. In particular, she said her co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth made the experience a lot of fun. The film series helped propel Lawrence to an international level of fame. The series is easily her most recognisable role.

Don’t expect to see her appear in the Hunger Games prequel film, though! The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes takes place long before the events of the first Hunger Games novel. Katniss hasn’t even been born yet! There’s a possibility we could see some “flash-forward” sequence at the start or end of the film to help put it into context for viewers. However, even the chances of this happening are minimal at best. After all, it’s been over seven years since Lawrence was in the most recent Hunger Games film, and there’s no reason for her to return to the role again.

Originally, The Hunger Games and its sequel film, Catching Fire, were both a hit with critics and the box office. Unfortunately, Mockingjay Part 1 and Mockingjay Part 2 didn’t receive the same success as these two films. We hope that the Hunger Games prequel film captures the audience’s love for the first two films. If so, it’s possible that the film executives could expand the series even further, perhaps with a spin-off film or two.

After all, there’s a lot of material they could work with. We could see how the government of Panem is revolutionised after the events of Mockingjay Part 2 and how they try to establish a new, fairer system. Or perhaps they’ll take things right back and show us the first Hunger Games competition. Either way, if the Hunger Games prequel film is a success, we could see plenty more forays into the world of this beloved franchise.

However, you’ve got a while left before Lionsgate released Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The film comes out on November 17th, 2023.
