Hugh Jackman Wolverine Return, Ryan Reynolds Declares It Will Be Different Seen In X-Men
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return will happen in Deadpool 3, after he left the adamantium claws, in 2017, after the character’s death in Logan. Many rumors appeared about the version of this character, and Ryan Reynolds clarified the details of what we will see of the regenerative mutant member of the X-Men.
Reynolds clarified that Deadpool’s version of Logan will not affect the character we saw from 2000, in the first X-Men movie, to the latest, 2017’s Logan. The actor who represents Deadpool in this franchise stressed that they will respect the story told and will show a different alternative to this character.

Ryan Reynolds commented to ET Canada about the version we will see of Hugh Jackman Wolverine’s return in Deadpool 3. The actor commented that it will differ from the one shown in Fox’s X-Men franchise from 2000 to 2017. So we will likely see an alternate version of the character. Reynolds added that it was hard to convince Jackman to return to the role after he declared that he was leaving it for good at the end of Logan. On this, he commented:
“We’ve wanted to do this for decades…it’s weirdly the perfect time. I never stopped . I was just pestering him like a gnat over the last many years, I believe in timing, as much as hard work, luck, and all those intersections that are supposed to meet. Timing’s the big one. I think he was ready. I think he was excited.”
Ryan Reynolds added, “And what we pitched him was enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.”
Apparently, the character will be different from what we saw in the X-Men franchise was Hugh Jackman’s demand for his Wolverine return. The actor confirmed this in an interview with SiriusXM. He emphasized that his return to the mutant world depended on not changing the character’s history from X-Men to Logan, considering that it was perfect from start to finish. About that, Jackman said:
“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans too.”.
How a New Version of Wolverine Could Appear
With the news of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return, one concern is how Marvel Studios will present this character version. They will likely use the Multiverse concept to explain this character divergence. It would not be strange since Kevin Feige once commented that the Multiverse opens doors to new and different variants of the same character.
Marvel’s president also said he would be okay with showing a new version of Wolverine if this leads him to join Deadpool and Logan in a single production. They will. It would be fascinating to see a Logan more attached to the comics, with his iconic yellow suit and the fierceness that characterizes him.
Excitement is in the air for Feige and Reynolds, but Hugh Jackman commented on his Wolverine return. The actor said he is happy to play the X-Men again in an interview with Variety. Jackman emphasized that he is satisfied, although he does not know why. The actor doubts whether it is a whim of age or because he feels that the character and he shares certain traits on an emotional level. About the latter, the actor said:
“Is that arrogance of age or something? Wolverine’s a tortured character – more tortured than me. But I always get the feeling of him being comfortable in his own skin. And I feel more comfortable in my own skin now, even though it’s messier.”.
