2020 has taken us all by surprise. So many events have unfolded that we couldn’t have anticipated at the start of the year. One of the most covered and one that made an impact on all of us? Coronavirus. The rapid spread of this contagious illness across the world has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and has seen the vast majority of us enter a lockdown mode where we shelter in place. Governments around the world have encouraged their citizens to stay home unless absolutely necessary. Many have asked that people only leave their homes for essentials, such as food or medication. When we do leave our homes, we have to stand six feet apart from everyone else who may be out in public at the same time. We’re wearing face masks and face coverings to protect our neighbors and folks most at risk. We’re wearing latex gloves. Hand sanitizer sales have gone through the roof.

Unsurprisingly, many of us have found ourselves extremely bored – especially those of us who are unable to work from home right now. So, what can you do to pass the time? A good place to start is getting through those series and film franchises you’ve always wanted to! Here are a few you might want to get started with.

The MCU

MCU stands for Marvel Cinematic Universe and includes any films that are produced by Marvel that take place in the fictional universe of their creation. There are seemingly endless characters that exist within this universe and chances are that you’re already familiar with a fair few. The Hulk, Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thanos and more. Now, there’s a lot of debate around whether you should watch the MCU films in any particular order. When it comes down to it, it generally doesn’t matter too much – especially if you’re only considering watching one or two. But if you plan to get through them all, you might want to have a read through MCU order to watch. (And Comic Years has its own suggestion about the best way to watch the MCU, too.)

Star Wars

Star Wars is a classic series and has countless fans around the world. In total, there are nine films, so that’s a lot of screen time to get through. But all in all, it’s worth it – even if only to understand the countless references to these films and their characters in popular culture. Again, there’s plenty of debate surrounding the order you should watch these films in. If you’re only just starting, some suggest that watching them in the order of release isn’t the best way to go about it. The chronology of events in the films does not match the order of release. So, you might want to watch them in fictional chronological order rather than real life chronological order. You can find a list of how to go about this here.

These are just a couple of suggestions you might like to try out. Give them a go and you’ll find a fun way to spend your days during these difficult times! Also, check out our movies section here on Comic Years to find franchises, like Indiana Jones, or series, like Defending Jacob, you can enjoy!
