New Cast Members Announced For Upcoming Dungeons & Dragons Movie
It seems like it doesn’t take much to get a film deal these days. (See: the multiple films already in production about the recent Gamestop stonks debacle). But there is one franchise that has inspired thousands of books, films, and television shows that has never gotten its due. However, that is all set to change with a Dungeons & Dragons live-action movie and series in the works from Paramount. This week, we got news about several actors who have been cast in the Dungeons and Dragons movie. However, we are still a little unclear on exactly how this movie will work. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Some big names are attached to the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie, including one of the top 2 actors named Chris in the world of genre media. That’s right, Chris Pine of Wonder Woman and Star Trek is set to star in the Dungeons and Dragons movie. What class will he play? Will he be a brooding Ranger, or a clever Rogue? Maybe he will go classic and be an honorable Paladin. We can’t say for sure, because we still don’t know exactly how this movie is going to work.
The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie will be written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. This is the team behind films such as Game Night, they also worked on the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming. According to Deadline, the film will “take a subversive approach to the game.” Honestly, that could mean anything. Will we be seeing a group of friends getting together to play D&D, with their adventure coming to life onscreen as they create it? Will it be more of a straight adaptation of D&D roleplaying books, drawing from pre-existing campaigns? It is still too early to tell how this will play out.

Joining Chris Pine in the upcoming D&D movie will be Michelle Rodriguez of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Maybe Rodriguez picked up some RPG tips from castmate and notorious D&D enthusiast Vin Diesel. There is no information on who Rodriguez will be playing in the film. We picture her as a Warrior of some kind, definitely neutral or chaotic.
Alongside Rodriguez is a young actor joining the cast by the name of Justice Smith. A relatively fresh face on the scene, Smith has a few credits to his name including a role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Detective Pikachu. Smith is a bit of a wildcard, it is difficult to pin down exactly what class he would fall into. I’m going to go with magic user, just for the sake of variety.

Unfortunately, it does not yet appear that famous D&D fans like Joe Manganiello will be involved in the upcoming film. The actor has been very vocal in the past about his desire to be involved in a D&D movie, even going so far as to write a treatment script several years ago that he took to Wizards of the Coast. However, with details still emerging about the film we can only hope that some of the famous D&D players of Hollywood might still get onboard.
