Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Oppenheimer now has a new teaser. From what we could see, the film will not have a bibliographical tone narrating the events that led to the development of the atomic bomb. Instead, it will explore the drama, suspense and anguish for the characters involved in some way with this event.

The release of Oppenheimer’s new trailer shows just that. The rush of developing the atomic bomb before the Nazis did, and the concern about the consequences its manufacture would bring to the future. We can also see several characters related to the process, such as Albert Einstein.

New Trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Released

The trailer of the film Oppenheimer has just been released, and it shows part of the plot that we will see in this new production by Christopher Nolan. Cillian Murphy will be in charge of giving life to the scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. It is not the first time that the filmmaker has worked with this actor. Nolan and Murphy have already worked together on five films, including the Dark Knight trilogy. The scientist is organizing a multidisciplinary team to develop a new weapon on this occasion. This is the Manhattan Project, in order to defend against the Nazis and put an end to World War II.

One aspect of the footage to mention is each character’s emotional approach before, during and after the execution of the project. One example is Oppenheimer’s concern about developing the bomb in record time. The scientist wants to finish before the Nazis beat him to the race, potentially changing the course of World War II.

In Christopher Nolan’s film, we will also see a military man represented by Matt Damon, supporting Oppenheimer in the project’s development and excited about the change it can bring about. However, there are also parts where he looks worried about the destructive effect of the atomic bomb and its negative impact on the world.

Renowned Actors in the Cast

The cast includes Tom Conti as Albert Einstein. Although the physicist was not directly involved in creating the atomic bomb, Oppenheimer and his team used his theories and knowledge as the basis for its development. We will likely see part of the regret expressed by this scientist for having contributed to the manufacture of such a monstrous weapon.

Another well-known actress appearing in the trailer is Emily Blunt portraying Katherine Oppenheimer. She was the scientist’s wife who developed her career as a botanist and biologist and was by his side until he died in 1967. We also see Florence Pugh as Jean Tatlock, a psychologist with a romantic interest in Robert.

The cast includes Robert Downey Jr, Tom Conti, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Jack Quaid and Alden Ehrenreich.

From what we know, Christopher Nolan wants to explore Oppenheimer’s psyche. The filmmaker is looking to convey his anguish after realizing his creation.

The plot in the trailer is one of turmoil at the height of World War II. We see how a military and scientific team organize everything to develop the weapon. Christopher Nolan will even show the village construction where they would develop the Manhattan Project and house all the scientists involved in the middle of a desert.

We can notice part of the assembly process of the bomb, some of the tests they performed and some explosions, which may be from the end when they are used in the Japanese locations mentioned.

Likewise, Christopher Nolan will have to convey the emotional implications of Oppenheimer’s suffering for the deaths of all the innocent people in the explosions in Japan. One part that did not happen, but we do not rule it out, is his statement, in which he quoted the Bhagavad Gita phrase: “Now I have become death, the destroyer of worlds”.

The film promises to be spectacular. As we already know, Christopher Nolan is not a fan of using CGI. For this reason, the director recreated a real atomic explosion for the film.

Christopher Nolan directs the film, which will be in theaters on July 21, 2023, in 35 MM, 70MM and IMAX versions.
