Chris Pratt Adds Garfield to His List of Voice Acting Credits

When it comes to on-screen roles, most of us think of Star-Lord or Andy Dwyer when we hear Chris Pratt’s name. But we’re in a timeline that keeps getting more confusing, so in a few short years, he’ll be remembered for iconic roles including Mario and Garfield. Yep, Chris Pratt has officially been added to the voice cast for a Garfield movie.

Chris Pratt Set To Voice Garfield, Begins Takeover Of Animated Films

The untitled project based on Jim Davis’ original comic strip is in the works with Alcon Entertainment, with its release by Sony Pictures. David Reynolds (Finding Nemo) is penning the script, and Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) is set to direct.

This film will reportedly be entirely animated. The news comes as a partial delight to those who weren’t fans of the previous partially animated, mostly live-action Garfield in 2004 and its follow-up in 2006. Bill Murray voiced the ginger cat in these films, which remains one of his favorite roles to date. (Just kidding. He claims that he signed on after mistakenly thinking it was being made by one of the Coen Brothers when in reality it was Joel Cohen.)

Does This Casting Decision Make Sense?

Many of us do think of Pratt as a rising acting star or comedian excellent with physical comedy. But an animated cat? Not so much. However, his various voice acting roles prove that he isn’t a bad casting decision for this film. This includes his role as Emmet Brickowski in The Lego Movie and Barley Lightfoot in Onward.

The actor was cast as the lead in an upcoming Mario film earlier this year. The movie, produced by Illumination in association with Nintendo, brings forth an impressive voice cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black. But Pratt’s casting did bring forth some controversy. Some were upset that a non-Italian actor was cast. Others just couldn’t picture him as the famous plumber.
