A Live Action Haunted Mansion Movie Is Coming And May Star Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stanfield
Following in the same vein as Pirates of the Caribbean (apparently there’s going to be a new movie with Margot Robbie?!) and the more recent Jungle Cruise, Disney is once again bringing one of its theme park rides to the big screen. A live action Haunted Mansion movie is set to start filming in Louisiana this fall and will potentially star Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah).
Didn’t We Already Have a Live Action Haunted Mansion Movie?

Yes, we did. You’re probably thinking of the 2003 movie starring Eddie Murphy that…well, bombed. Murphy played a realtor who moves into a haunted mansion with his family and as they’re trying to escape, he learns lessons in just how important his wife and children are. This new Haunted Mansion sounds less cheesy and may potentially elevate the good name of the ride though. Stanfield plays a widower who moves into the titular mansion with his family. He used to believe in the supernatural, but has pushed that aside and works as a jaded tour guide in New Orleans French Quarter. Haddish would play a psychic that’s hired to commune with the dead.
Justin Simien is making his big-budget movie debut after working on projects such as the critically acclaimed Dear White People and the horror film Bad Hair. It will be interesting to see where Simien takes Haunted Mansion, especially since he’s no stranger to incorporating race into the entertainment conversation and the film is taking place in New Orleans, which has a rich and diverse history.
Simien will make his directorial debut with a script written by Katie Dippold. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback will produce and Nick Reynolds (also of Rideback) is executive producing.
