Bad news, The Last of Us fans. Today, Naughty Dog announced that they were delaying the upcoming PC port of the game by three weeks. Originally, they were set to release this port on March 3rd. However, they announced today that they were pushing it back by three weeks to March 28th. It’s not long, but the news will disappoint some fans. Naturally, this The Last of Us Part 1 PCport marked the first time fans could play the iconic game on their computers. Currently, the game is available only on PS4 and PS5, so this Windows port would’ve opened things up for a wider fanbase. Oh well – at least it’s coming!

Naughty Dog made the official announcement in a statement that they posted to social media. In the post, the studio spoke about The Last of Us HBO adaptation and fans’ overwhelmingly positive reception towards it. They also spoke about the new features in The Last of Us Remastered and the reasons for the delay. You can read their statement below.

“Let’s get right into it: We initially announced The Last of Us Part 1 PC release would be March 3, but we’ve decided to push its launch date out by just a few weeks — it will now be released on March 28. We at the studio have been completely blown away by the outpouring of love and support for The Last of Us these last few weeks.”

After revealing the delay, Naughty Dog went on to talk about the HBO adaptation of the The Last of Us Part 1 PC port:

“Hearing your love for the HBO adaptation, seeing your beautiful Photo Mode shots, and learning about how the world and characters our studio created nearly a decade ago continue to reach new and old fans alike floors us every day. We know a lot of you have been revisiting the story that started it all with TLOU Part I on the PlayStation 5 console, and we realize many of you have been excited to jump in — some for the first time — when Part I hits PC.

And so, we want to make sure that The Last of Us Part 1 PC debut is in the best shape possible. These additional few weeks will allow us to ensure this version of The Last of Us lives up to your, and our, standards. We are so excited to bring The Last of Us Part I to a new platform, reaching new and returning players with Joel and Ellie’s unforgettable story of survival, and we hope that you’ll continue to look forward to its PC release on March 28. The Naughty Dog team appreciates your support and enthusiasm, and we look forward to sharing more about Part I PC version soon.”

Although this news about the The Last of Us Part 1 PC is sad, it’s good to know they’re delaying the game to make it the best they can. After all – who wants an unfinished game?! Naturally, the HBO adaptation of the series has helped to boost sales. In particular, the remastered PS4 version saw an increase of 322% in sales, while the PS5 increased by 238%.

The Last of Us Franchise

Beyond the original game, Naughty Dog made it clear that they’re focusing on The Last of Us franchise for the foreseeable future. As such, this means The Last of Us Part 1 PC won’t be the only piece of content we’ll get in the franchise. For example, we already know they’re creating a multiplayer title set in the same universe. We’ll likely hear more about this game later in the year.

Unfortunately, this means that the studio won’t focus on other games. If you’re a fan of the Uncharted series, you’re out of luck now. Perhaps in the future!
