Fans of the Knights of the Old Republic video game – get ready to celebrate! According to one of the lead members of Embrace Group, we should expect news about the remake to come “very shortly.” There’s no strict date of when we’ll get this news, but they have promised information “in the next several months.”

The Original Knights of the Old Republic

Originally, Aspyr released the game back in 2003, and it was an immediate hit with fans. Knights of the Old Republic was the first role-playing game in the Star Wars franchise. Fans loved the ability to create their own storyline and live in a galaxy far, far away. So, it should come as no surprise that Lucasfilm released a ton of wider content for the game, too. This included a book and comic series.

Later, Aspyr followed the original game with a sequel in 2005, titled Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords. This sequel had notable differences from the first game and improved on it in many ways. Lucasfilm aimed to release another game, part 3 of the series, later. Sadly, Lucasfilm canceled the game due to budget cuts preparing the company for future investment.

Instead, Lucasfilm released a spinoff series titled The Old Republic. This game, which is an MMORPG. They followed this game with several DLCs and expansion packs. However, when Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise in 2014, the series became part of the Legends canon.

KOTOR Gets Remade

However, fans were delighted to learn last year that a remake of the original Knights of the Old Republic was officially in the works. Aspyr confirmed that the remake would be released on Playstation 5 and PC. They dropped a trailer in September 2021, which naturally excited fans.

Unfortunately, we know very little else about the game. All we know is that a Knights of the Old Republic remake is coming…until now. One of the members of Embrace Group, Matthew Karch, stated that more information on the game is coming “in the next several months.”

Additionally, Karch also revealed that Saber Interactive is working on the remake with Aspyr Media. This is because they are aiming to rework Knights of the Old Republic from the ground up. The more help, the better it will end up being! It’s not clear if the remake will be part of the official canon or remain as part of the Legends continuity.

After this, Karch went on to describe how Aspyr was ” full in to make this the best game that they can make.” This is sure to get fans excited! Then, Karch compared Saber’s involvement in Knights of the Old Republic to the Halo franchise. He stated that “we’ve done it on Halo — on multiple Halo products — we’ve done it on other titles that we’ve remastered over on other platforms.”

What Will It Include?

Again, we’re not too clear what the Knights of the Old Republic remake will include. However, Karch has said that “the game is going to be fantastic.” Then, he went on to highlight some of the problems with creating the game. This is because “it’s a massive, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to make good.”

Unfortunately, if you’re looking to play it on Xbox or other consoles, then you’re out of luck. According to the CEO of Saber Interactive, the game will be exclusively for Playstation 5 and PC. There’s no word on any ports to any other consoles, which is a real shame.

It’s not too clear when Aspyr will give us more information about the Knights of the Old Republic remake. However, since the Summer Game Fest Showcase is in June, it makes sense for more information to drop then. Additionally, there are also rumors that Sony will have a special event where they’ll drop more information about the game. Whenever more information drops, you know that we’ll be there to cover it!
