Halo Infinite was a huge release. But, it was also met with quite some disappointment over its lack of a co-op campaign. The Halo Infinite co-op campaign update has been long-awaited. The last time we mentioned it was back in April.

But, it seems like the developers are moving quite fast. Digital Foundry report, the co-op campaign is available for insider testing. And, things are looking quite promising.

Naturally, that’s great news for fans. We’ve already been a bit spoiled with the great series. And, it’ll give us some distraction while we wait for the second season.

This testing period marks another month of constant development for the game. Halo Infinite has evolved considerably since its launch. And, it’s now getting one of the most crucial features for any Halo entry.

It’s also exciting to see what an open world can offer with co-op gameplay. The game is the first one to open up the map this much.

Teaming up: The name of the game

Halo has always been a reference for co-op games. It’s offered fantastic experiences for both online and local users. And, the first few chapters in Halo Infinite follow this tradition.

The opening section is quite linear. Players will have to stick together and fight the waves of enemies side-by-side. It gives plenty of leeway to separate from your partner. But, it’ll teleport players to their buddy at certain points.

However, things change considerably once the open world enters the scene. The game has to take other measures to keep players together. And, the reviewers admit it feels a little constricting.

Players can go as far away as 300 meters before the game forces them to regroup. But, it’s not just a teleport. The Halo Infinite Co-Op Campaign game will outright kill the player that’s the furthest away from the current objective.

That said, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. The game needs to keep the action focused. And, it’s best to experience everything with your friend beside you. Moreover, sticking together and tackling the different challenges is more satisfying than ever.

How does the Halo Infinite co-op campaign feel?

The campaign works perfectly during the opening chapters. When everything is linear, it’s hard to spot any issues. The team tested with one player located in Germany and another in Canada. Still, latency and synchronization issues were minimal.

They even stated that the game feels better than the Master Chief Collection. Some lag showed in the animations and hit registers. Yet, it didn’t hinder gameplay in any way.

On the other hand, the open world seems to add a few technical challenges. The original test included a Steam Deck. And, it suffered heavy stutters at medium settings. It made the game almost unplayable.

But, it’s mostly due to the game’s system requirements. It’s not a co-op technical issue.

On powerful hardware, some issues persisted. According to Digital Foundry, some latency variation was noticeable. And, it’s probable due to the use of dedicated servers. As such, it depends on who’s closer to the dedicated server.

It might still take a bit to come out

With that in mind, the Halo Infinite co-op campaign needs a bit more work before coming out. The review closes by stating that the experience is excellent. Yet, there are several bugs that need ironing out before release.

Plus, the game froze a couple of times during their test. In both cases, it was during loading times. They resulted in lost progress from having to reload the game and losing checkpoints.

Yet, they agree that the experience was exceptional. The limitations of the open world section felt necessary. Still, they don’t feel too restrictive.

Of course, we can’t wait for the co-op campaign to come out!
