There are a lot of rumors circling about the future of gaming consoles. Let’s not forget: a huge, one in a generation game is coming out this year too. All the attention on consoles makes sense. We can’t wait to see the Xbox Series X and PS5. That being said, let’s remember Cyberpunk 2077 is still coming this year. A big question mark around the game is whether or not we’ll see a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch port. Here’s what we know, and what we hope might happen.

Is a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch Port Possible?

There are a ton of possibilities available thanks to the Switch’s portability. We talk about it a lot on Comic Years; it’s a huge feature to keep the console competitive. People want to talk about the PS5’s power or the possible Xbox Series S leaks, and I get it. We can’t forget the power of the Switch experience, no matter how great those consoles will be. There are so many people who own a Switch, either as a main or supporting console. PC gamers can get their Nintendo fix on the go. Someone like me, who primarily plays the Xbox One, gets just as much work out of their Switch. It’s truly a console you feel like you can’t skip.

A huge part of that is the port market, or games that start on another console and then come to the Switch. The biggest game of 2020 may be possible on the Switch, but even its developer is skeptical.

I remember being shocked when The Witcher 3 looked as good as it did on the Switch. That’s because of a lot of hard work from CD Projekt Red. If you know anything about the history of CD Projekt Red, then you’re not so surprised. They almost made their name in the world of porting games. When recently asked about their upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077, they seemed skeptical but didn’t close the door to a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch port. CD PROJEKT Red’s John Mamais thinks it’s too soon to dismiss the possibilities:

“I don’t know if Cyberpunk 2077 would work on the Nintendo Switch. It might be too heavy for it. But then, we did put Witcher 3 on it and we thought that would be too heavy too but somehow we pulled it off.”

It’s not a flat out no, but it’s also not a priority right now. There are bigger fish to fry at the CD Projekt Red studios.

Is a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch Port Worth It?

So, will we see a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch port? It seems like it might happen down the road. For now, the questions about why is Cyberpunk 2077 delayed  rest solely on its performance. The game seems like it might be in trouble on big time consoles. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what happens. If a Switch port is possible, then please, let’s bring it. It just seems to me like the game is having enough trouble on high power consoles. Why waste efforts now to get it on Switch? I know they’re probably thinking the port comes far down the line. Still, I’d rather not have it on the table and be surprised, all the while enjoy the game on more powerful console.

Do you think a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch port is worth it? I know we all would probably play one, but is it a priority right now? Let us know in the comments! And as always, thanks for reading Comic Years for all things gaming, comics, and pop culture.
