The Counter-Strike 2 limited test has just gone live! Starting today, selected players will be able to try out the new features. Moreover, content creators can stream themselves playing it. So, everyone gets a taste of what’s to come.

This huge overhaul comes with a series of huge releases. We’ve covered the Fortnite Unreal Editor and Sea of Thieves’ plans. Plus, we have the Resident Evil 4 Remake coming. Needless to say, there’s a lot to be excited about.

So, let’s dive into the limited test.

What is the Counter-Strike 2 limited test?

The name is fairly self-explanatory. The limited test is an open trial for an exclusive group of players. Valve is picking several users to try out the upcoming changes. That includes reworked smoke effects, audio, and more.

Right now, players might be receiving a notification about the limited test. This allows them to play on the dedicated server. And, they can stream themselves playing the new version.

That’s a way to gather user feedback about the changes. That way, Valve can fix and improve the game based on the insight. The limited test will apparently run until the full release. Thus, there’s a lot of time to gather improvements.

There are a bunch of new features in the Counter-Strike 2 limited test. Luckily, you can find out more on the official website. Still, let me summarize them here.

Firstly, we have smoke grenades. They’re now more dynamic and realistic. For instance, it’ll react to gunfire, explosions, and lightning. That creates opportunities, like opening sight lines with gunfire.

The game also updates the “tick rate architecture.” Essentially, this means that the server constantly knows what’s going on. Grenades, movement, and other elements will be more consistent.

Several maps are also getting overhauls and upgrades. Plus, Source 2 tools will also be available to the community. That includes an Item Workshop. Speaking of items, they’re getting updated, too. All your items from CS:GO will port over, with improved visuals.

Finally, visual effects and audio physics are also improving. Visual effects include gameplay, environmental effects, and UI. On the audio side, we have a full rework to reflect the environment better.

You can check out the official FAQ for more information. Basically, Valve will select the best player profiles for the test. That includes playtime, trust factor, and ban history. Those players will receive a notification to enroll in the test.

Over time, Valve expects to add more players. So, you have a chance to make it before summer 2023. For now, Deathmatch and Unranked Competitive are the available game modes. But, future updates will bring more variety.

Lastly, if you make it, it’s your role to report bugs. For that, you can email your report to the CS2 team.

Do you think you’ll make it into the Counter-Strike 2 limited test? Did you already get selected? What do you think of these changes? Let me know in the comments!
