With all the talk of battle royale games two years ago, things have died down quite a bit. Fortnite is still the top streamed game on Twitch, and Apex Legends continues to do well. Another major name in shooters, Call of Duty, reportedly wanted into the mix, accompanied by rumors for the past year or so. Well, Call of Duty battle royale is a real thing, and there’s more good news. The game mode, called Call of Duty: Warzone, will be free to play for all gamers.

The New Call of Duty Battle Royale Game – Here’s What We Know

We had the idea that a battle royale game from Call of Duty was coming. In fact, last month we got a look at 11 minutes of footage for the game mode, but it’s not removed from YouTube. Activision sort of wanted to roll things out their way, but when leaks start, well, leaking, it’s out of your hands from then on out. The game’s details are largely unknown, but here’s what we do know.

The Call of Duty battle royale game is called Call of Duty: Warzone. The game is free to play for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you own Modern Warfare, then you will get access to the mode early. It’s not necessarily clear when, but the head start is implied. There’s also no real-money store, but it’s likely that some sort of battle pass system a la Fortnite is going to be available.

Is the New Mode Anything like Black Ops 4?

A battle royale mode on Black Ops 4 introduced the game style in 2018. Now, some changes are being made. Instead of players finding all sorts of gadgets, players are now expected to stockpile cash while competing in the typical battle royale experience. Tha cash is obtainable by surviving, finding loose cash, completing tasks, and buying stations via kill streaks. You can also earn money by helping teammates who fall. The map size of Warzone isn’t clear, but it appears to be huge. That’s a good thing since the new Call of Duty battle royale mode is going to support 150 players at once. You’ll also be able to play with tanks, trucks, and a bunch of other vehicles.

New Gimmick and Release Date for the Call of Duty Battle Royale Mode

A couple of new things look to be mixing up the battle royale experience. A Gulag mode allows players to fight out from prison and escape to come back alive to the match. Once you die once, you wake up and watch two other players fight to the death. Once someone wins, you’re next in line, and if you win, you can rejoin your team. It’s a wild feature, but once you do it once, you die for real the next time.

For those who can’t wait to play the new game, Activision is launching Warzone at 3 PM Eastern Time on March 10th. The next few weeks are full of releases, between this, Doom Eternal, and Animal Crossing. What are you most excited to play? Let us know in the comments!
