New Regency, the production company behind hits such as Little Women and Bohemian Rhapsody, has just signed a deal with indie comics and graphic novel publisher TKO Studios in an exclusive partnership to develop television projects from TKO’s collections, which include works such as Sara, a comic centered on Russian snipers fighting Nazis, and Sentient, a sci-fi story about a colony spaceship. What will this entail exactly? Let’s look into this New Regency and TKO Studios deal!

What Does This New Partnership Mean For New Regency And TKO Studios?

According to the parameters of this deal, New Regency will have exclusive rights to produce material for television based on TKO Studio’s collections. Salvatore Simeone and Tze Chun, who are part of the indie publisher, will develop, produce and package all shows with New Regency. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Simeone and Chun said:

“TKO is proud to partner with New Regency. Their track record creating groundbreaking film and television aligns with our history of publishing critically acclaimed thought-provoking genre stories. We feel our companies’ combined strengths make an ideal partnership and forges a new model for TV adaptation that will benefit all parties, including our incredible creators.”

Why TKO Studios? It’s a no-brainer, at least according to New Regency chairman and CEO Yariv Milchan, who called TKO “innovators and leaders in their field,” adding, “we have been longtime fans of their exceptional material.” TKO is known for publishing original comics and graphic novels by top creators such as Jeff Lemire, Garth Ennis, Roxane Gay, Gabriel H. Walta, Steve Epting, Steve Niles, and Steve Orlando, just to name a few.

While New Regency is probably better known in the movie arena, they’re working on a few intriguing television series, such as one that will involve Donald Glover and be based off the 2005 hit, Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They recently produced a British drama series titled The Beast Must Die, which stars Jared Harris and Cush Jumbo.

What do you think of this New Regency and TKO Studios pairing? What TKO titles are you most looking forward to seeing made into a television series? Let us know in the comments below!
