Today, Marvel dropped its emotional Phase 4 trailer, reminding fans of the journey that we’ve been on, but also showing glimpses The Eternals first footage, as well as Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. For the rest of the movies, we got to see the titles and the release dates (especially pumped for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels!).

Waaaay back in 2019, Marvel had announced their Phase 4 schedule at Comic-Con. It was an exciting lineup (Black Widow! Shang-Chi! Loki!), but one of the most buzz-worthy announcements was Chloé Zhao’s The Eternals. The star-studded cast included a diverse range of actors and actresses such as Richard Madden as Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayak as Ajak, Kumail Nanjini as Kingo, and Gemma Chan as Sersi. At CCXP (Brazil’s version of Comic-Con), Kevin Feige said that Eternals will redefine the MCU, which makes sense given that the history of the Eternals starts with the beginning of human evolution.

So What Did We Learn From The Eternals First Footage?

Not much, unfortunately. We got to see Salma Hayek’s Ajak riding a horse, Gemma Chan’s Sersi’s saying, “We’re the ones who changed everything,” (very vague), Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo very coolly taking off his sunglasses, Angelina Jolie’s Thena wielding a glowing sword, and Richard Madden’s Ikaris standing with some of the other Eternals.

While we didn’t learn a lot plot-wise, this was a chance for us to see what incorporating more diversity into the MCU would look like. Zhao is the first woman of color to direct a Marvel movie and Lauren Ridloff, who will play Makkari, will be the the first hearing-impaired character in the MCU. However, she’s not the last as we’ll be getting a series about Echo, a character who will debut in Hawkeye on Disney+.

What we know for certain though? The release dates of all the Phase 4 movies!

  • Black Widow: July 9th, 2021
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: September 3rd, 2021
  • Eternals: November 5th, 2021
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home: December 17th, 2021
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: March 25th, 2022
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: May 6th, 2022
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: July 8th, 2022
  • The Marvels: November 11th, 2022
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: February 17th, 2023
