Tatiana Maslany Denies She Will Play She-Hulk In Disney+ Series
There are a lot of things about 2020 that are pretty bad, and one of them is the dearth of Marvel Cinematic Universe news this year. However, we started getting snippets of casting news about upcoming Marvel Studios projects. Unfortunately, one of the most exciting bits of casting news, may not be true at all. Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany denies she was cast as She-Hulk for the forthcoming Disney+ series. The news broke across the “trades” last month. Rather than suggesting things were still up-in-the-air, i.e. “in talks,” outlets like The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.com said that Maslany landed the part.
We should note that when it comes to large pop culture franchises, actors do routinely lie about new projects. For example, Ewan McGregor confessed that he lied for years to reporters who asked if he’d play Obi-Wan Kenobi again while in negotiations to return to the role. Lucasfilm wanted to keep the project quiet, but reporters constantly asked McGregor about his most famous role. Thus, in order to keep Lucasfilm happy, he lied. He said there were no plans, but he’d love to do it. In other cases, actors are cagier about whether or not they are attached to a project.
The denial came during an interview for the arts section of a newspaper in Ontario. The interviewer casually mentioned the reports about her casting, and the Perry Mason star dismissed them quickly.
As she told The Sudbury Star:
“That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”
Maslany went on to say that she doesn’t “know how these things” hit major news sources without even calls for comment or confirmation.
So, if Maslany really is attached to She-Hulk, she’s going the McGregor route. In a new interview, Tatiana Maslany denies that she was even up for the part of She-Hulk in the Disney+ series. If it sounds like I’m hoping that she’s a lying liar, it’s because I am. Maslany is one of the great actors in television. Her ability to play multiple roles on Orphan Black and make each character unique seems perfect for a Hulk character that has two sides to their persona. She’d be a great She-Hulk and an equally great Jennifer Walters.
