Shang-Chi Sequel By Simu Liu: It Should Be A Musical
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings doesn’t come out until September (the spoiler free Shang-Chi reviews are in though!), but fans are already excited about a second movie! Simu Liu, who plays the titular star, recently went on RadioTimes.com to talk about how likely it was. A Shang-Chi sequel with Simu Liu may or may not be happening, but he did say that his fingers were crossed for one. He said:
“Certainly I hope to be back. Where we leave off in the movie certainly kind of alludes to it. Fingers crossed.”
Kevin Feige, who’s a producer for the film and also President of Marvel Studios, told reporters at the Shang-Chi premiere that the new superhero would appear in the MCU, but whether it’s in another solo film or as a guest appearance in another movie is unclear.
Liu, meanwhile, already has ideas on what he wants the sequel to be like and I have to admit, I’m all for it! He joked:
“Is it too early to say a musical? I’ve always been a bit of a karaoke junkie. You saw a little bit of my talent in the movie, and I think that it bodes for a very exciting future for Shang as one of the first musical heroes in the MCU. I think that you would agree.”
All kidding aside, it’s actually not completely out of the question. There were musical numbers in some of the Arrowverse shows and does anyone remember that time Barry Allen got pulled into singing “Summer Nights”? Granted, both Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash) and Melissa Benoist (Kara/Supergirl) have musical backgrounds and appeared on Glee. So the big question is, can Simu Liu sing?? Check out the video below of him at the 18th Unforgettable Gala and we’ll let you judge for yourselves:
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premieres September 3, 2021. The Shang-Chi sequel will hopefully debut soon! Right Marvel?
