It Was Agatha All Along In A New Witchy WandaVision Spin-Off For Disney+
Who’s been messing up everything? Who’s been pulling every evil string? It’s been Agatha all along! And now everyone’s (second) favorite witch from WandaVision – Agatha Harkness – is set to get her own spin-off show on Disney+. Cue the theme song!
Kathryn Hahn Will Reprise Her Role As Agatha Harkness For WandaVision Spin-Off
According to Variety, Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role of Agatha Harkness for the upcoming Disney+ series. WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer is also onboard for the spin-off that is being described as a ‘dark comedy.’ There are no other details on the new series, and Marvel has yet to officially confirm the news. But that won’t stop us from speculating wildly about what (and who) will be in the new show!
Kathryn Hahn gained widespread praise and acclaim for her performance as “Agnes” in WandaVision. Initially she filled the sitcom role of the nosy neighbor – who always waltzes through the door with perfect comedic timing. But in the end it was revealed that “Agnes” was really an ancient witch named Agatha Harkness. She had been drawn in by the powerful magic that Wanda employed to create her utopian world known as the Hex.
Agatha was at times a mentor to Wanda, and an antagonist. But although she did some questionable things during the show (and in her own history) she is not truly a villain. In fact, Agatha seems determined to stop Wanda at the end of the series. It was clear that she feared that Wanda’s power, and worried that it might destroy the world. Agatha is certainly a compelling nuanced and morally gray character. And we are delighted that she will be returning to our screens in the near future.
What Will The New Agatha Harkness Series Be About?

The question is: what will this spin-off be about? There are several possibilities for how Marvel might choose to explore this character more fully. In WandaVision Agatha got a flashback scene revealing her witchy origins. However, we still don’t know much about her life between the Salem Witch Trials and present day. The series could choose to explore that period of time. And this character study that might lead to larger events in the MCU.
At the end of WandaVision, Agatha was left behind in WestView – under the Scarlet Witch’s spell. In the end, Agatha assumed the role of “Agnes” once more, without knowledge of her true identity. However, Agatha is a powerful witch in her own right. And it is only a matter of time before she breaks that spell and recalls her power.
Will The New Agatha Harkness Spin-Off Draw From The Comics?

Whatever direction the show chooses to go, it has to be better than Agatha’s storyline in the comics. However, the spin-off could definitely incorporate some elements of Agatha’s comic book history. Over the years Agatha has aided the heroes of Marvel universe. And also worked against them according to her own plans. Her comic book history also involves The Fantastic Four – a set of heroes that have yet to appear in the MCU. Is it possible that this series could bring in those iconic characters?
