A Captain Carter Movie? What If Team Hints At The Possibility

The series premiere of What If…? aired this week and it introduced us to many familiar faces (Howard Stark, Steve Rogers), but it also brought us a new iteration of Captain America. World, meet Captain Carter! The reimagined story: instead of Steve Rogers getting injected with the super serum, Agent Peggy Carter gets injected instead. She takes on the role that Steve Roger’s Captain America did: embarking on a top secret mission to take down Hydra and rescue some captured American soldiers, which includes Bucky Barnes. However, instead of the stars and stripes, her outfit and shield feature the Union Jack and she has to deal with a whole lot of sexism and misogyny. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode, but it also brought up the question of whether we’d eventually get a Captain Carter movie (the multiverse is coming to theaters after all *cough* Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness *cough*). The writer and director of What If…? recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about (or not talk about) whether there’s the potential for a Captain Carter movie.

So How Likely Is It That We’ll Get A Captain Carter Movie?

If the interview is anything to go off of, we still don’t know (darn A.C. Bradley and Bryan Andrews for having restraint of steel. Or vibranium?). If you’re interested in their non-answers, check out Andrew’s response below:

“I think the answer is you have to wait and see. But this is the multiverse, and things do integrate and co-mingle at Marvel, so what if…?”

The Hollywood Reporter then handed it off to Bradley, who responded:

“I think I’d rather answer a question about anything else. Give me trigonometry. Give me the Cretaceous period. Hopefully… I love these characters more than anything, I grew up reading them, and I fell in love watching them. So writing them was a dream come true, and I would run, jump, skip and kill for any other opportunity to do so. It’s been an honor and a privilege.”

Despite both of these answers, there’s definitely an interest in a Captain Carter movie. Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter, has been filming Mission Impossible 7 the better part of the past decade, so everyone was joking that she’s already in shape to be Captain Carter. “She’s literally ready to go!” Andrews cracked. He also added:

“I know A.C. and I feel totally the same in this, and while we don’t know if this is necessarily going to happen, it would be amazing if they would just do a Captain Carter movie. Just get Hayley Atwell in the suit, give her her own franchise and just have her blow doors like hells to the yeah.”

New episodes of What If…? air every Wednesday on Disney+.

Are you ready for an Agent Carter movie? I feel like we should get the petition going! Let us know in the comments below if you’re in!
