Among many things, 2020 has been the year for the cancellation of many entertainment industry events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Festivals canceled, conventions postponed and awards shows going virtual. The jury is still out on how that last one will work. But during hardships, innovation always finds a way to provide. Many conventions and fan events have gone virtual during the pandemic, like Justice Con or the biggest event of the year, the SDCC Comic-Con At Home. While other brands have seen this as an opportunity to create something new entirely, like the recent Funimation Con 2020. Similarly, DC Comics will be doing their own virtual fan event, as showcased in the new DC Fandome teaser trailer.
DC Fandome Teaser Trailer Gives Glimpses Into The Event

DC Fandome is a little different from other virtual fan events because it’s coming from DC Comics, one of the larger comic book, movie, TV, gaming brand. For years now, there were rumors about the big two comic book publishers skipping out on the other big convention of the year, SDCC, in favor of their own events. Marvel Comics already has a home at the D23 convention, now that they are a part of Disney. But DC Comics has always needed SDCC to highlight their latest films and TV shows.
But that won’t be the case this year. The DC Fandome teaser trailer gives a glimpse into a one-of-a-kind experience, and I’m completely sold! The official press release for DC Fandome promises the presence of almost every DC Comics TV or movie property at the event. The list includes, but is not limited to, The Batman, Justice League Snyder Cut, Superman & Lois, Wonder Woman 1984 and so many more.
DC Fandome Teaser Trailer Shows What To Expect
Given its unprecedented nature, it’s hard to pin down exactly what to expect from DC Fandome. The official website lists a sort of universe-map of the event, beginning in Hall Of Heroes. It feels like it’ll be online portals, with each portal possible acting like a different room or hall at a traditional convention venue. The other areas of the event include DC KidsVerse exclusively with fun stuff for kids, DC YouVerse with fan content and cosplay, DC FunVerse for merchandise, and multiple other zones. The catch? It will only be live for 24 hours.
What We Knew Will Be At DC Fandome Before The Teaser Trailer
Justice League Snyder Cut Trailer?

The long-awaited and mythical Justice League Snyder Cut will be premiering in 2021 on HBO Max. Getting a chance to release his version of the Justice League movie is a dream come true for Zack Snyder. The Snyder Cut of Justice League will have a presence at DC Fandome according to the official press release. In interactions on social media platform Vero, Snyder confirmed a few months ago that he was working on the trailer for the Snyder Cut. So I wonder if we’ll get an official full trailer for the Snyder Cut, revealing some key changes in visual effects or the look of the film. DC Fandome definitely feels the place for it, given it’s a fan event and fans were largely responsible for the Snyder Cut’s release.
Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah From Wonder Woman 1984

The pandemic also delayed the release of Wonder Woman 1984. However, the movie is very much complete and awaiting release. We know that the cast and crew will most likely will participate in Fandome, but I’m hoping that there’s more to it. The next official trailer could come out at Fandome, possibly with the first official screen-look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah villain. Recently Patty Jenkins confirmed that there may be a third Wonder Woman movie, but it will be her last in the franchise. So there may be an official confirmation on the third movie at this event? Only time will tell.
James Gunn Teases More From The Suicide Squad AT DC Fandome

One of the more exciting aspects of the DC Fandome teaser trailer comes from The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. Gunn’s support for Fandome has been present from day one, as he has excitedly teased a lot to come at the event. Recently Gunn released title cards for his version of the Suicide Squad, in multiple languages. Along with the image, Gunn also promises that fans can expect to see more from the movie at Fandome. I’m thinking that we’ll get official character posters from the movie showing off the new looks of the Squad.
Return Of The Batman At Fandome

Matt Reeves’ The Batman also fell victim to a shut down in the infancy of its production. So it’s doubtful that there will be any new footage or even trailers for DC Fandome. But with a confirmed presence, we could see some official images of the actors in character, if not their comic book costumes. With talent such as Colin Farrell and Zoe Kravitz in the movie, any official images of them in character is sure to get fans excited. Possibly even additional screen tests of Robert Pattinson as Batman, similar to the one released earlier.
What We Want To See At DC Fandome

While there’s a lot that we know has a great chance of happening at DC Fandome, there are others that seem less likely. But it would be great if DC used this new platform to revive those anticipated stalled projects. For years, The Flash movie has been in developmental hell at Warner Bros, with a revolving door of directors involved. The most recent development was the attachment of Andy Muschietti as director, and theories that the Flashpoint comic book storyline is the basis for the movie. It would be great to get some sort of confirmation announcement, along with possibly some other cast members to prove the movie’s forward momentum.
And speaking of movies taking forever to get started, there’s also The Rock’s Black Adam. Feels like it was years ago (it was) when The Rock announced himself as the anti-hero from DC Comics. While the casting is pitch-perfect, the movie’s lack of any development since is frustrating. We even got a Shazam! movie, who Black Adam is the villain of, without any mention or set up of that character. Similar to Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool, The Rock has championed for a Black Adam movie all these years, so here’s hoping that DC Fandome has some official confirmation on the project.
DC Fandome is a one day only free virtual fan event taking place on August 22.
