Faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap across your couch in a single bound…it’s a bird! No, it’s a plane! No, it’s a new animated Superman series coming to HBO Max, titled My Adventures with Superman. The series is going to be a coming-of-age story that sees Superman navigating his secret identity as Clark Kent and learning to embrace his new role as defender of Metropolis; meanwhile, Lois Lane is a star journalist at The Daily Planet. Together, and with their best friend and Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, they take down the bad guys and go on adventures! Clark and Lois also learn what it means to love each other! It all sounds so incredibly adorable.

Given the popularity of other shows that focused on Clark and Lois’s relationship (Lois & Clark: The Adventures of Superman, the CW’s Superman & Lois), it makes sense that a more kid-friendly version is in the works.

Wasn’t There Already An Animated Superman Series?

Yes, there was! From 1996-2000, Warner Bros Animation aired Superman: The Animated Series on Kids’ WB. This series seems like it will be different from My Adventures with Superman though. The Kids’ WB version focused more on Superman himself rather than the relationship and adventures of Clark and Lois. In addition, My Adventures with Superman sounds like the story of Superman will be told through Clark, Lois, and Jimmy, rather than just CLois. The role of Jimmy Olsen in Superman: The Animated Series was small to say the least. As Amy Friedman, Head of Kids & Family Programming at Warner Bros. said:

“Superman has remained one of the most iconic and beloved superheroes in the world. This fresh take from the Warner Bros. Animation team delivers a modern, relatable Clark Kent alongside a fearless, whip-smart Lois Lane who are navigating the small tasks of both becoming adults and trying to save the world.”

Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, added:

“It’s been a great partnership working with Cartoon Network and HBO Max to bring more DC superheroes to the platform in new and creatively interesting ways. This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois and Jimmy — whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friends.”

Clark/Superman will be voiced by Jack Quaid (The Boys) and Lois will be voiced by Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist). My Adventures With Superman will be produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) will executive produce with Jake Wyatt (Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus) and Brendan Clogher (Voltron: Legendary Defender) co-executive producing; Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) will co-produce. The series was ordered for two seasons, so we’ll just have to wait and see how everything plays out.
