While fans have eagerly been awaiting the third season of The Umbrella Academy to drop, Netflix gave viewers a juicy teaser on the show’s birthday, confirming that Season 3 of Umbrella Academy is set at Hotel Oblivion and will be released next year (the exact date is still unknown).

What Exactly Is The Hotel Oblivion?

In The Umbrella Academy comics (written by Gerard Way aka emo kids everywhere’s favorite frontman from My Chemical Romance), Hotel Oblivion was the name of the third volume in the series, named after a place where “no one could escape.” At the end of the second season of The Umbrella Academy, we find out that the new Sparrow Academy has taken over while the Umbrella Academy tries to figure out how the heck to fix the result of their time traveling. It seems likely that they may be banished or sent to Hotel Oblivion by Dr. Hargreeves or members of the Sparrow Academy? The first episode will be entitled “Meet the Family,” which could mean numerous things.

The titles of the other nine episodes are “The World’s Biggest Ball of Twine,” “Pocket Full of Lightning,” “Kugelblitz,” “Kindest Cut,” “Marigold,” “Auf Wiedersehen,” “Wedding at the End of the World,” “Six Bells,” and Oblivion.”

In an interview with Collider, Tom Hopper who plays Luther said:

“I think it’s a great setup for Season 3. I thought that the show really found a groove. I think what was so great about Season 2 is that we’d set up the world in Season 1, and I really feel that Season 1 was almost like a setup for the rest of the show. You’re not trying to figure out what this world is anymore, you know who these characters are, you know where they’re at in their lives. And, then we can really get things going. And I think towards the end of Season 2, you really start to just see what the show is, and it’s a great setup for what’s going to happen in 3.”

The Hotel Oblivion volume was released in 2018, although given how the series has been going, it doesn’t seem to follow the series exactly. Show writers and producers often have some creative license with the source material, so Season 3 could turn out to be a very surprising run for the show.
