Free Guy and Death on the Nile Get Removed from Disney Release Calendar

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a pretty good chance that a lot of films will be delayed in the upcoming months. While this is unfortunate, it’s made even worse when you consider just how many films have already been postponed or canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Death on the Nile and Free Guy are the latest films to get removed from the Disney release calendar, and we’re pretty bummed about it.

Free Guy and Death on the Nile Both Removed From Disney Release Calendar

Free Guy, an upcoming sci-fi action comedy, stars Ryan Reynolds as an NPC (non-player character) living in an open world video game. Reynolds’ “Guy” eventually realizes that he is a character living in a game and decides that he wants to become the main character, which takes him on a wild adventure. The film was slated for a December 11th, 2020 release date (which was initially July 3rd, 2020 prior to the pandemic) until now.

Death on the Nile is the follow-up film to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express. Both Kenneth Branagh films follow the famous detective, Hercule Poirot, as he seeks to solve unsolvable mysteries. This film will take him on the S.S. Karnak, a cruise ship that sees a devastating murder. After a handful of release date delays, the film finally tried to land on a December 18th, 2020 release date.

Disney has officially removed both films from the release calendar. With so many other films being delayed, this comes as no shock. While other Disney films like Black Widow may need a theatrical release to make up for their massive budgets, we’re hoping that these two films could land straight to streaming services instead. After all the money Mulan brought to Disney, we wouldn’t be surprised!
