The next big publishing event in the Star Wars galaxy – The High Republic – is delayed until 2021. However, there is still some Star Wars media to look forward to later this year. Lucasfilm Publishing announced today a number of tie-in books and comics for The Mandalorian. Baby Yoda fans rejoice! Let’s take a look at what is on the docket for The Mandalorian books and comics.

The Mandalorian Will Get A Visual Dictionary And Official Novelization

Visual dictionaries are common in the Star Wars universe. Every major trilogy has had its own visual dictionary. And it looks like the Disney+ shows will follow that trend. The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian is due for release on December 15, from Abrams Books. A perfect holiday gift for the Star Wars fan in your life.

According to the publisher the book will be “Filled with concept art, sketches, and interviews with key cast, crew, and creatives, including showrunner Jon Favreau and director Dave Filoni. The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian will provide readers with an exclusive look at a whole new universe of Star Wars characters, locations, and vehicles.” There is also an Ultimate Visual Guide for The Mandalorian coming with text from Pablo Hidalgo. He has also worked on the visual guides for The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and Rogue One.

Also releasing in December is the official novelization of the first season of The Mandalorian. Written by Adam Christopher, who also contributed to the upcoming Star Wars: From A Certain Point of View anthology. Christopher is no stranger to writing novelizations of tv and movies. He has also written books in the Stranger Things universe, as well as for the Dishonored games franchise.

Comics and YA Novels For The Mandalorian Are Also In The Works

According to the press release, there will also be comics set in the world of The Mandalorian. These will be released by Lucasfilm Publishing partner IDW. However there is no specifics on what these stories will be about, or who will write/illustrate them. An additional YA version of The Mandalorian novelization written by Joe Schreiber is also coming. There is even a golden book version coming for the youngest fans of Baby Yoda, along with coloring books and other kid-friendly merchandise.

These books should all coincide with the release of the second season of The Mandalorian. According to reports, the second season of the hit Baby Yoda show will be coming in October, 2020. It is unclear if the ongoing global pandemic has impacted the release date for the show’s next season. However we remain hopeful that we will get to see Baby Yoda on our screens again this Fall.
