Author Andy Weir rose to fame with his novel The Martian. The subsequent hit movie directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon has made the author’s future projects quite lucrative. Weir announced his upcoming novel Project Hail Mary back in March. And now we have a release date for the title. Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir is due for release on May 4, 2021.
Project Hail Mary By Andy Weir Will Also Be A Movie
MGM has already picked up the option for the film ahead of its release. Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the film adaptation of the book. Drew Goddard has also signed on to adapt the title, after sucessfully working with Weir to bring The Martian to the big screen. There is no word as to whether the ongoing pandemic – and current production shutdown -will affect this project.
Author Andy Weir says that he “really cannot wait to get this one in people’s hands in May. It’s hitting a lot of those notes that people responded to with The Martian—but I also went for it in a big way with the science and the speculative aspects, and it took the story in some crazy and exciting new places.”

Another Solitary Man Far From Home
The synopsis from Penguin Random House tells us the following about Project Hail Mary.
“Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission–and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.
Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, he realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Alone on this tiny ship that’s been cobbled together by every government and space agency on the planet and hurled into the depths of space, it’s up to him to conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And thanks to an unexpected ally, he just might have a chance.”
