Ghost In The Shell is one of the best anime out there. It’s even included in our Anime Guide as one of the must-watch movies for newcomers to Anime. The long-running and successful manga is now getting a Netflix original series titled Ghost In The shell SAC_2045. The streaming giant recently released the first teaser, and it’s pretty gorgeous.

The Ghost In The Shell Live-Action Disaster

Ghost In The Shell was hugely controversial in recent times due to its live-action adaptation. The movie caused a scandal with fans and audiences when Scarlett Johansen, a caucasian actress, was cast in the role of Major, the protagonist. The series itself is from a Manga (Japanese graphic novel), so the expectation is for the character to be Asian, if not of Japanese heritage. Add to this that the movie itself was mediocre at best, and the Ghost In The Shell adaptation was deemed a disaster.

The New Anime Teaser Fixes The Mistakes Of The Movie

The teaser released by Netflix is incredibly brief. But it immediately course corrects the fiasco of the live-action adaptation. How? Easily. The new Ghost In The Shell SAC_2045 series is entirely CGI. And it looks pretty great.

The teaser sees a car pulling up along a desolated highway of a world that looks very much abandoned. As it comes to a screeching halt, the passenger disembarks. And it’s none other than the main character herself, Major.

The Look Of The Ghost In The Shell SAC_2045 Stays True To The Manga

The anime has seemingly corrected many of the live-action film’s failings. Namely, the look of Major. The few seconds we got to look very close to the Manga and anime depictions of Major, and it’s pretty amazing at that.

The Title Of New Ghost In The Shell Anime Reveals Its Story

While we know very little about the story of the new Netflix anime, it’s title is very telling. The original story saw events happening between the years 2029 and 2035. So the title of Ghost In The Shell SAC_2045 could easily be a reference to the year. The time jump would also explain the desolate wasteland that the trailer briefly showcases. And that Major even refers to in the one line of dialogue.

Ghost In The Shell SAC_2045 will release on Netflix sometime in 2020.
