The Witcher was so successful for Netflix, that there is now a The Witcher anime movie on its way. The show was one of Netflix’s biggest successes of 2019. The series is reportedly one of the most-watched Season 1 shows by the streaming giant. So much so that Netflix has already ordered a Season 2, even before its Season 1 premiere. And now, Netflix is doubling down by ordering a The Witcher anime, titled Nightmare Of The Wolf.

The Witcher Is An Adaptation From Novels And Then Video Games

Netflix’s new original series The Witcher is a fantasy horror story originally adapted from a series of novels. However, the series will be more known to casual audiences as highly successful video games. The series sees a world known as The Continent that has many different beings living together in anything but peace and harmony. Gnomes, elves, humans, witchers, and various monsters occupy the lands, fighting for dominance.

The Witcher’s protagonist is Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter whose fate becomes intertwined with others in a story dealing with the ambiguity of good and evil. The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the lead character. The series got a mixed response, currently holding 66% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Witcher Anime Is Netflix Doubling Down On Its Most Recent Success

A new report from Deadline confirms that Netflix has now ordered The Witcher anime movie. The feature film anime will have a new adventure for Geralt of Rivia, as a new evil threatens The Continent. We have no word yet when the story of The Witcher anime takes place, but presumably in between Seasons 1 and 2. There are no more details about feature length anime movie, not even if Cavill will be returning to voice the character.

The Witcher anime’s producer’s are the same as the live-action series showrunners, Lauren Schmidt Hissrick and Beau DeMayo. The animation studio of the anime film is the Korean company that shot to fame with Legend Of Korra and Netflix’s own Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Not The First Time The Witcher Went Anime

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time that The Witcher went anime. In 2018, when Netflix announced their live-action series, a concept artist created a Studio Ghibli style image of The Witcher. The image showcases Geralt of Rivia as he would look if he was a character in a movie by the renowned anime studio, Studio Ghibli.

The artist, Lap Pun Cheung was a concept artist working for Boss Mode Games. His own concept was then shared by the official Twitter account for The Witcher, and then re-shared by himself. The image actually looks pretty great. Not to mention that almost two years later, it provides a great visual idea of what a The Witcher anime may look like.

There is currently no release date on Netflix’s The Witcher anime.
