The headline of this article is not a sentence I would ever have thought I’d say. But it’s true. Previously, we reported the iconic actor, producer, and director Keanu Reeves is making his own comic book. The comic book series, BRZRKR, written by Reeves, features an immortal character designed after his own likeness. The comic book itself sounds pretty incredible, about an amazing warrior battling through the ages, seeking his mortality. It sounded like an awesome project. But then, it got better. Now there’s confirmation of a BRZRKR live-action movie and anime in development at Netflix. And the best part: Reeves will both star in and produce the live-action movie, and voice the character in the anime.

Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR comic book series comes from Boom! Studios. It’s written by Reeves & Matt Kindt with art by Ron Garney. The series is all about a half-god and half-mortal cursed man having to live a life of violence. After centuries of aimless violence and death, the character known as B seeks an end. So in the modern-day, he ends up working for the US Government, to do the jobs no one else will. His reward will be to discover his own origins, potentially leading to a way for him to die. It sounds dark, tragic, while also having the potential of being an action blockbuster, extravaganza!

This is Reeves’s first-ever comic book that he’s writing, and ever been a part of. But what’s most interesting, is how the series will now also be a live-action movie and anime at Netflix. This will be another feather in the cap of Netflix’s anime catalog, and an even bigger deal given Reeves’s involvement.

The live-action BRZRKR movie announcement confirms that Reeves will star in the titular role. This is no surprise, given that the comic book character is designed after Reeves. It’s still a little hard to believe. Keanu Reeves will portray the comic book character designed after himself in the live-action version. I mean, it’s synergy at its best and the most one-stop content creation situation that I’ve ever heard of. Especially given such a quick turnaround time.

Reeves will also produce the live-action movie, and voice the character in the anime version. There are no details on who else is a part of the project as of yet. But given the Reeves-centric connection, who better to direct the movie, than Reeves himself? His only directorial project was Man Of Tai Chi, a martial arts action movie. So we know he is adept at starring in and directing incredible action sequences. BRZRKR sounds like an action movie that would be right up Reeves alley, to direct.

It’s Yet Another Era Of Keanu Reeves

It’s a great time to be Keanu Reeves. Ever since his come back with the John Wick franchise, Reeves is back in a big and bad way. He’s had guest appearances in movies like Toy Story 4 and Always Be My Maybe. Not to mention bringing back two of his own most beloved franchises like the upcoming Matrix 4 and the recent Bill & Ted Face The Music. Reeves is like-ness is also used in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. Oh, not to mention the additional John Wick movies that are also coming up.

Given Reeves’s iconic status as a cult action star for the last few decades, it makes the BRZRKR live-action movie and anime suddenly one of my most awaited projects of 2021. Both the movie and anime will premiere on Netflix.
