Hunter x Hunter Has Finally Returned!
After a four-year hiatus, Yoshihiro Togashi has returned with the long-awaited Volume 37 of the Hunter x Hunter manga. Togashi took a break due to his decline in physical health and inability to properly use his hand to create the illustrations. In midst of this, he created a Twitter account to keep the fans updated on his progress. Earlier this year, he announced that we should expect new chapters soon but of course, fans remained skeptical. “We will believe it when we see it” – were most of the fan’s reactions on Twitter, but it’s time to believe it because it is here at last!
Hunter x Hunter Story Background
Hunter x Hunter follows the story of the incredibly optimistic Gon Freecss, a boy on a quest to become a monster hunter in hopes of finding his long-lost father. Along the way, he meets his mysterious best friend Killua Zoldyck – who comes from a family of very well-trained assassins. The two friends are thrown into a world of chaos, calculated villains, and epic battles that will forever change them. Each new arc introduces brand new characters, new antagonists, and new environments for the duo to explore.
The manga was originally released back in 1998 and there have been two different anime adaptions since. When the manga first made its appearance, the new chapter releases were pretty consistent. But, with Togashi’s health issues, the releases became less frequent as the years went on. As much as fans loved the Hunter x Hunter story, they remained respectful of the wait time due to Togashi’s health complications. Besides, you simply cannot rush magic. The long wait periods have allowed new fans to jump on board each year – not to mention, the storyline being unfinished keeps the wonder alive. Even after all of these years, we still do not know how it ends – how exciting!
New to Hunter x Hunter?
For those of you new to the Hunter x Hunter world, you have a lot of content to start with. You can begin with the anime – which has a total of 148 episodes thus far. You can stream it on Crunchyroll or Netflix. The anime stops on Volume 32, Chapter 339 of the manga. It has not been announced whether or not the anime will cover the remaining chapters. We can only hope, as the fandom grows larger each year due to the amount of new exposure and fan edits on social media (thanks TikTok).
